There are a lot of reasons doulas and midwives are getting burned out, and one glaring reason why, is the tendency to create gigantic, complicated, hot mess, "everything-except-the-kitchen-sink" offers that are stuffed with features, time consuming and stressful to deliver (no pun intended!) 🤣
It's possible that doulas believe "stuffing" their offer with every feature and solving every problem under the sun will make it more attractive, or give it more "value", but if you're a birth doula... your client only has one goal: to have a great birth. Any feature that doesn't facilitate that outcome is clutter that creates confusion for your potential clients and makes them hesitant to buy.
Let's solve this problem... today!
Simple Offer = Simple Life
As you create your birth doula or midwifery offer, embrace this mantra: simple offer, simple life. Less complexity means less stress. And let’s be real, we all want more peace, time and joy in our lives, right?
I want you to take a step back and ask yourself, "Am I trying to solve too many problems at once?" The more you pack into your product or service, the more room there is for confusion—both for you and for your clients. I call offers like this "Hot Mess Franken-offers". If the idea of someone actually hiring you fills you with subconscious dread... or you're finding it hard to market... you may have an offer issue. Your offer should feel light and easy and fill you with joy, bebe! If it doesn't, it'll be hard as hell to sell!
Note: I wonder if this feature stuffing is a confidence issue: Are you afraid to be "just" a birth doula?
Simple Offer... More Clients!
No matter what industry you're in... clients are NOT looking for an overwhelming solution to all their problems; they want one, clear solution to one specific challenge. When your offer is laser-focused and provides an actual, specific, tangible result or outcome... not only will your clients feel understood, but they’ll also see you as the clear choice to solve their problem. It’s easier to market, easier to explain, and easier for clients to say, “Yes, this is exactly what I need.”
Let’s get specific for a minute. If you’re offering birth doula services, your product doesn’t need to address every conception, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding, and new parenting challenge under the sun. That’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself! Instead, get crystal clear on the #1 challenge you can confidently help your clients overcome... and then provide a world-class, five-star, unique solution to that one issue.
It's quite possible that people aren't hiring you because your birth doula offer includes tons of features and services and add-ons they don't want or need... and don't want to pay for.
Why Simplicity $ells
Here’s the magic of simplicity: not only does it make your life easier, but it also makes your product way more appealing to your potential clients! People love clarity. A clear, focused offer stands out from the sea of noise and confusion. When clients can see exactly what you’re offering and exactly how it will solve their problem, saying "yes" becomes effortless for them.
You want to give your clients a five-star, world-class experience. But in order to do that, you need to stay focused. Simplicity allows you to do one thing extremely well—and that’s a powerful thing.
Bottom Line: Do less, but better,
Here’s your golden rule: Do less, but better. While everyone else is out there providing mediocre, half assed solutions to a dozen problems, you'll be an expert in providing a world class, five star solution to one problem. And that, my friend, is all you need to do to become a leader in your industry and have a sustainable, profitable business. Your life will be more joyful, your business will be easier to run, and clients will flock to you. Remember that your product doesn’t have to solve every problem, just one problem really, really well!
I hope this leaves you feeling relieved and refreshed!
